EFFECTIVE LIGATION

IN-SIGHT BANDER

Hemorrhoids are very common in both men and women and can develop from a variety of reasons. Located in the lower rectum, hemorrhoids can become inflamed, causing bleeding, itching, swelling or other bothersome symptoms.

Hemorrhoid banding is a common and well-known method to treat internal hemorrhoids. Unlike over-the-counter remedies, which only work temporarily, hemorrhoid banding offers a long-term solution. Hemorrhoid banding, also called hemorrhoid ligation, is a non-surgical, virtually pain-free procedure that a doctor can perform in their office.

The procedure involves placing a small rubber band around the base of the hemorrhoid using the InSight™ Multi-Band System. The compression created by the band diminishes the blood supply to the hemorrhoid, causing it to shrink and eventually fall off. This leaves a small scar that heals in just a few days.

FAQ

WHAT CAN I EAT AFTER MY PROCEDURE?

It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids and to increase dietary fiber intake to have one or two soft stools per day for several days after banding.

DO I NEED TO RESTRICT MY ACTIVITIES POST-BANDING?

It is advised to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for 1-2 days after your banding procedure. Avoid sitting for a prolonged period of time. Unless you have been prescribed anorectal medication, do not put anything inside your rectum for two weeks after your procedure.

DOES BANDING HURT?

Hemorrhoid banding is virtually pain-free because the banding is done above the dentate line, a section of the rectum that contains a very low concentration of pain-sensitive nerves.

Some patients may experience mild discomfort or a feeling of fullness that can usually be treated with acetaminophen or ibuprofen as per instructions from your doctor.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NECESSARY?

Your doctor may decide to band multiple hemorrhoids in one visit and studies have shown that multi-band ligating is safe and effective. This may vary from patient to patient and will be determined by your physician.

DON’T ALL HEMORRHOIDS HAVE TO BE REMOVED SURGICALLY?

No, it is estimated that 95% of hemorrhoids can be treated using a ligation banding system like InSight.

WHO ARE THE IDEAL CANDIDATES FOR LIGATION BANDING?

The vast majority of patients with hemorrhoidal disease are excellent candidates for the procedure. The InSight is suitable for virtually all patients with Grades I – III disease.

HOW DOES BANDING WORK?

A tiny latex-free rubber band is placed around the base of the hemorrhoid, which cuts off blood supply to the area. Within a few days, the banded tissue and band will shrink and fall off, usually without you even noticing.
